Nopal Cactus Juice - Its Amazing Healing

Cactus juice – a natural solution to inflammation!

Why is it important to control inflammation?

Inflammation can lead to chronic pain and serious disease.
What is inflammation? Inflammation is your immune system’s response to damage.
This damage can be caused by trauma (injury), bacterial, viral or parasitic infection, stress, genetic abnormalities, metabolic disorders, etc. Inflammation can also be brought on by, poor diet, stress, being overweight, or smoking. Inflammation can cause redness, swelling, heat, pain and loss of function of the effected area.

When you are injured, the inflammatory response immediately moves into action.
White blood cells rush to the damaged area and begin to destroy the damaged cells, while at the same time sending out chemical signals to call for more help.

This causes free radicals, to be released. Free radicals start to attack the damaged area, destroying some of the healthy cells in the process.

The new damage leads to another round of inflammation, and on it goes.
This cycle of inflammation is called chronic inflammation. That’s when you’re really in trouble. It is said that chronic inflammation is at epidemic levels! Inflammation may be silently burning inside of your body right now! For that nopal cactus juice can help to overcome this difficulty.

In time, this damage can affect your overall health. That’s why it is said that inflammation can lead to major diseases. The word Inflame, means to set on fire.

Very descriptive, wouldn’t you say?

Betalains are a special kind of antioxidant. That means that they fight toxins (harmful things in our body) and put out the flame of chronic inflammation.

Only Nopal cactus fruit has all of the 24 betalains known to man. This cactus lives in the harsh environment of the Sonoran desert. The large number of betalains allow it to survive the extreme heat of the desert. These same betalains will put out the fires of chronic inflammation burning within you.

In 2004, Time Magazine published a story about inflammation and its destructive effect on the body. Medical science has found more and more connection between chronic inflammation and crippling diseases. Since the Nopal cactus is the only plant that contains all 24 betalains, it stands to reason that you should be drinking this juice, just as the natives of the area have done for centuries.

Nopalea, If It Tastes That Good, It Has To Be Bad For You!

Nopalea is naturally sweetened with agave nectar, it has no added sugar and tastes fantastic! Making it one of the natural things that I love to enjoy that really tastes great and is very beneficial to my health.

  • How could a juice that is so beneficial for you taste so good?
  • Is Nopalea just loaded with sugars?
  • Does Nopalea have artificial sweeteners in it?
You may expect anything that is really good for you to taste bad! Cod liver oil, cough syrups, those nasty cough drops, any prescription medicine (if you manage to not get it swallowed before it starts to dissolve), liver, soy products, how about carob … This may be my personal list and experiences. The opposite also seems to be true, most things that taste really good are really not beneficial to our bodies.

My Great Taste Dangers

Sugar for one , in its many forms, it tastes great! Candy bars, ice cream, soda pop, cakes, pies, doughnuts and all those things that my sweet tooth craves! Sugar has been blamed for weight gains, dental problems, hyperactivity in children, and other increased health problems. These all have all been contributed to America’s increasing consumption of sugar. Cheese Burgers, pizza, hot wings, juicy cheese and bacon burgers… fattening. Weight gain and cholesterol seem to stick in my mind.

Tastes good, bad for you. Tastes bad, it must be good for you. That seems to have been true before I found my favorite healthy treat, Nopalea.

As I have gotten a little wiser and older, my tastes have changed a little. After all this year 2010 I became a Grandpa! It has been a few years and I have been trying to eat much healthier, exercising and taking better care of my self. I have found many healthy things that taste great and I look forward to.

The most beneficial thing that I really look forward to and tastes great is Nopalea. It provides me natural relief from aches and pains, and I simply look forward to and love the taste.

Nopalea in fact does taste really good, but it comes only from all natural sources. Nopal cactus fruit, the main active ingredient in Nopalea the nopal cactus juice, tastes naturally sweet. The added taste comes from another desert plant, the agave cactus. Agave nectar has been used and produced in Mexico as a sweetener for a long time. There are no other artificial sweeteners or sugar added. These ingredients are combined with other fruit and vegetable concentrates to maximize Nopalea’s benefits to your health. The formula alse uses a small amount of another sweetener and sugar substitute named stevia which takes the bitter edge off of the added fruits and vegetables. Stevia has been used as a sugar substitute for many years in Japan.

The results of all of the research and formulation is a wellness drink that I look forward to and tastes great. Better yet the active ingredient betalins relieve chronic inflammation, reduces pain in many cases and also helps regulate blood sugar levels.

Wow finally something that is sweet tastes great and is great for you!
Taste Nopalea, take the wellness challenge and see for your self what this great tasting juice will do for you!

The Many Health Benefits of Nopal Cactus Juice

Nopal cactus juice, made from the fruit of the prickly pear, is a great source of a rare form of antioxidants called Betalains. Betalains are naturally found in just a handful of fruits and vegetables, such as beets, rainbow swiss chard, and the nopal cactus fruit and are responsible for giving those items their pinkish-red pigmentation.

In humans, these rare antioxidants serve a very specific purpose within the cells- they capture and “diffuse” free radicals (unstable molecules) before they have a chance to destroy or damage anything. Free radical damage to the cells is what causes the aging process, which is why nopal cactus juice is said to have anti-aging properties.

Inflammation fighting capabilities

Chronic inflammation is the result of the body’s inability to control its own immune response. What starts out as a normal call for help to your white blood cells because you bumped your knee or twisted your ankle, causes a cascade effect which results in your body not being able to “flick the off switch” on the call for help.
A number of ethanol extract studies on the nopal fruit have shown that ingestion of it can inhibit leukocyte (white blood cell) migration, which is the catalyst in the development of inflammatory disease. In addition, the studies showed suppression of edema, or fluid retention.

Lowering Bad Cholesterol

The Nopal fruit is a rich source of pectin, a soluble fiber, which is found to reduce LDL cholesterol levels. It does so by decreasing the absorption of sugar in the stomach and intestines. In fact, a study done by Dr. Maria L Fernandez as published in the “Journal of Nutrition” showed that consumption of prickly pear cactus lead to a 28 percent drop in total cholesterol levels in the animals tested which is pretty substantial.
Decrease of Blood Sugar Values

There have been several studies on the effect of nopal juice extract on blood glucose values. One, done in 1995 and published in the “Journal of Ethnopharmacology”, revealed an 18 percent decrease among participants while another, done by a group in California showed that adding nopal to a high carbohydrate Mexican diet among patients with Type 2 diabetes actually reduced the concentration of glucose in the body immediately after the meal.

The reason for this, again, stems back to the amount of pectin within the fruit. By reducing the absorption of sugar in the stomach and intestines, the overall blood glucose values of the body are reduced.

Overall, the studies on the nopal cactus fruit, and the juice that comes from it, reveal that it’s a great asset to anyone’s diet. It prevents pre-mature aging, promotes optimal cellular health, reduces inflammation and detoxifies the body. One word of caution, however, for those on medications for any sort of health condition that they hope nopal cactus juice may help with- as with any nutritional change you make to your diet, you should consult your physician before giving nopal cactus juice a try.

If you are interested in adding nopal cactus juice to your daily nutrition arsenal, health and wellness company, TriVita, makes a product called Nopalea which might be just what you are looking for. It contains nopal cactus fruit, additional superfruit extracts and is sweetened with agave nectar.
